ST. MARY’S CATHOLIC CENTER
CAMPUS MINISTRY INTERNSHIPS
St. Mary’s Catholic Center is now accepting applications for 2013-2014 Campus Ministry Intern positions. These positions will be filled by students at St. Mary’s, to serve from July 8, 2013 until May 23, 2014.
The internships are not just “busy-work” or office job positions. Each intern will be given true responsibilities and authority to do real work in campus ministry. Guided by the Assistant Director of Campus Ministry and the rest of the pastoral team, the interns will learn that their position is one of both privilege and responsibility.
Please prayerfully consider these positions. Listen for God’s calling, and be confident that if called to apply, God will provide the grace, skill, and ability to minister to fellow students. Interns will have important responsibilities, and accountability is expected. At the same time, the interns will have St. Mary’s support, and the joy and privilege of working for the betterment of fellow students as well as the opportunity for personal formation.
This is an internship and a ministry, and not merely an extracurricular activity. That being said, interns are expected to be full-time students; allowing sufficient time to maintain grades is vitally important to being an effective intern. The time expectation per week will be a maximum of 20 hours with an average of 12-15 hours. Obviously this is subject to many influences – time of year, tests, activities in any given week, etc. In addition to the personal and professional development they will gain from being a Catholic Campus Ministry intern, interns will be offered a stipend of $500 per month (no other job should be held during this period).
Because the year of internship is also a year of formation and discernment, each intern will be asked to select a spiritual director and meet regularly with them. Prayer and dialogue are essential to the spiritual formation process. Therefore a weekly meeting with the Assistant Director of Campus Ministry is part of this process.
Each intern will be responsible for many different responsibilities of a Catholic Campus Ministry Intern as well as the specific responsibilities of the position to which they are called. To qualify the person must be a devoted and faithful Catholic in good standing, classified as a Senior or Graduate Student in the fall of 2013
. Additional requirements, responsibilities and details can found in the application packet.
A full description of the internships is available in the “Campus Ministry Intern Information Packet and Application”, which can be picked up at the receptionists’ desk or you can request an electronic copy by emailing Marcel LeJeune
