Welcome! The FOCCUS Pre-Marriage Inventory is a research-based assessment tool designed to provide engaged couples and their trained FOCCUS facilitator a personalized profile of what is needed in the couple’s marriage preparation process. The FOCCUS Inventory is not a test and is not used to predict marital success or failure. Rather, it is an instrument designed to help you and your fiancé identify, understand, and communicate openly about areas of growth and strength in your relationship. It offers a map of specific relationship areas that may need time and attention, affirmation or problem solving, along with offering a starting place for discussion.
How does FOCCUS work at St. Mary’s?
First step (REGISTRATION): Complete and submit the online registration (click the Registration submenu in your right)
Second step (PAYMENT): Pay the FOCCUS fee (click the Payment submenu in your right for payment information, or click PAY NOW for credit/debit card payment).
Third Step (ONLINE TESTING): Once registration information and payment is received, your online inventory is set up and both partners complete the FOCCUS online inventory. Each of you will receive an email with testing information and individualized user ID and passcode. You may complete the inventory online wherever you have internet access. You and your fiancé do not need to be in the same place or start at the same time. You can save your testing session and resume it at a later time. The FOCCUS testing session should be completed independent of one another and answers should not be discussed while taking the inventory.
Fourth Step (REPORT): The facilitator scores your inventory and generates a report.
Fifth step (FEEDBACK): Upon completion of your online testing, a first feedback session will be scheduled to review results and to discuss relevant relationship areas.
Sixth step (CERTIFICATE): Upon completion of the FOCCUS program a certificate of completion is submitted to your marriage preparation coordinator or marrying priest.
For couples who may not feel comfortable with computerized testing, or who may need special/ language assistance, please contact Dr. Orozco to discuss your needs and if appropriate a paper-pencil testing session may be schedule.
