February 2, 2013, 12:00 AM - February 3, 2013, 12:00 AM
Location: Main Church
The Main Church is located at 603 Church Ave. one block North of Texas A&M in Northgate.
In this Sunday’s Gospel, we read the passage from Luke that contains the “job description” of Jesus and of his followers: He was sent and we are sent to “to bring glad tidings to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim liberty to captives and recovery of sight to the blind, to let the oppressed go free, and to proclaim a year acceptable to the Lord” (Lk 4:18b-19). The Spirit has been given to us, are we letting God’s word bear the fruit of justice and freedom in us? There are many ways we can do this in our parish, among those by participating in opportunities like food drives.
Sunday for the Poor food drive on Feb 2 & 3
In 2010, 46.2 million people in the USA were in poverty and the US Department of Agriculture estimated that 49 million Americans, including 17 million children and 5 million seniors, were food insecure. Texas has the 3rd highest rate of people living in poverty and facing hunger! Many families rely on food pantries to be able to feed the family. You can help the St. Vincent de Paul Society food pantry to relieve some of the hunger in our community by bringing spaghetti noodles and sauce, hamburger or tuna helper, canned pasta with meat, chili, stew & any soup to the food drive at St. Mary’s next week, Feb 2 & 3. Donations can be dropped in the carts at the entrance of the church. Thanks for showing your care for our neighbors in need.
