Wednesday, June 29, 2011, 7:00 PM - 9:00 PM
Location: 201 / 202
Rooms 201 and 202 in the Catholic Center are located on the second floor.
Conversations about Contemporary Concerns will show the movie “The Soloist” from Joe Wright (2009) at 7 PM in room 201 on Wednesday June 29.
The Soloist tells the true story of Los Angeles Times journalist Steve Lopez and his unexpected friendship with homeless Nathaniel Anthony Ayers. At first glance, Ayers seems to be a mentally ill man, dressed flamboyantly and playing a violin with only two strings and expounding on the beauty of Beethoven. A regular columnist in the struggling newspaper industry, Lopez smells a story, and begins to tell the homeless man’s tale. When he discovers that Ayers attended Juilliard, one of the most prestigious performing arts schools in the world, his fall from cellist prodigy to street dweller becomes much more fascinating. The Soloist provides insight into homelessness and mental illness.
