The Catholic Church has long called for peace and disarmament in the world. Pope Paul VI introduced World Day of Peace on January 1 1968, the feast day the Roman Catholic Church dedicated to peace on the Solemnity of Mary, Mother of God. For this day the Holy Fathers make an important statement weaving together concerns for peace, poverty and care for creation. Signs are that the cause of peace may become a dominant one for Pope Francis.
