John 15 is all about helping you grow in your faith in community. Committees allow us to serve the entire John 15 community, and are one way that John 15 allows you to interact with other freshmen outside of your immediate family. The five committees, Service, Social, Finance, Evangelization, and Prayer, each support the John 15 community in a different way, and allow us to put into practice what we talk about in meetings in a more tangible way. As a member of John 15 you will be matched with one of these five committees as a way to more fully participate in this faith community. Below each of the five committees are discussed in more detail.
The service committee will be in charge of planning service events for members of John 15 to participate in. These service events can either be created by the service committee, or be already established organizations/events that the committee coordinates with (Habitat for Humanity, Big Event, Twin City Missions, etc.). All the details of the service events will be planned by the committee, and each event will be open to all of John 15. All subcommittees will be overseen by the Exec member, GLs will be in assigned to each subcommittee, and leadership/job roles will be assigned to freshman within each subcommittee.
The Social Committee will be in charge of planning and putting on all the amazing social events John 15 will be hosting. In these events we hope to glorify God and draw you closer in community with not just your family but all of the amazing students involved with John 15. This way you can experience your freshman year with a larger group of freshman friends from John 15 :)
The Finance Committee will be responsible for all of the additional fundraising of John 15. This will be accomplished through organized, approved events such as working the parking lot of St. Mary’s or cleaning Kyle field. Additional events will be planned and executed by the freshmen. Proceeds from these events can be put towards John 15 as needed or appropriately used for or donated to a charity or cause of the Finance committee’s choosing.
As an Evangelization committee we will strive to become the best disciples we can be. By focusing all of our attention back on Christ's Gospel message, we will engulf ourselves in learning any way to go out and spread this message. We will target specific groups, places, and events to start reaching out to everyone who has not heard the Good News. Using the ideology of Spiritual Multiplication we plan to talk to and form as many relationships with others as we can in order to bring more disciples to our Lord. At years end we aspire to have formed the best disciples within John 15, and many new Christ centered relationships all over Texas A&M.
Prayer is central not just to our ministry of John 15, but to the life of a Christian. Prayer is the relationship we have with Jesus, and how He draws us closer to Himself. The Prayer committee is responsible for fostering an environment which encourages deeper encounters with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. It will do so by intercessory prayer for John 15 and its intentions, organizing group attendance of events such as Daily Mass, DMC, and the Rock, as well as any prayer centered events, both at St. Mary’s and on campus, that the prayer committee organizes.
