Serving Others, Serving Christ
ACT offers services, activities, education, and awareness of social justice issues to help students connecting faith and action.
The Mission of ACT is to encourage Catholics at St. Mary’s to live out their baptismal call of being Christ to one another and to the world through the dual mission of educating people about the Catholic Social Teaching, and serving St. Mary’s and the wider community.
To Educate and Act!
Join ACT every other Wednesday (dates for thes Spring 2017 are JAn 25, Feb 8, Feb 22, March 8, March 22, April 5, and April 19) after daily mass from 6:30 to 7:30 PM in room 201 for talks, small service projects, discussions on specific topics and socials. The goal of the meetings is to help ACT members to connect their faith with the call to serve our neighbors and the way they live their lives, while developing friendship within the group.
ACT is offering weekly opportunities to perform the Corporal Works of Mercy through services in the community. There are seven acts of love and mercy that Christ has commissioned us to perform: feed the hungry, give drink to the thirsty, clothe the naked, shelter the homeless, bury the dead, visit the sick, and visit those in prison. to see how to get involved.
How To Get Involved: YOU DO NOT NEED TO BE A MEMBER TO VOLUNTEER
You can volunteer to any event/service opportunity that interests you and as many (or as few) times as you are able to!!
We ask that you join the ACT feed on Flocknote. Weekly reminders will be sent to the ACT members including all the relevant information for that particular week service projects or events. In addition, feel free to contact
, ACT President, with any other questions concerning services or for general questions regarding ACT.

STAMPEDE FOR NEED 5K run/walk
The Work of Human Hands provides an opportunity to put our consumer dollars to work for a better world by buying extraordinary, one-of-a-kind Fair Traded handcrafts through the Work of Human Hands project of Catholic Relief Services in partnership with SERRV. The beautiful products sold through Work of Human Hands are created by more than 90 producer groups in 30 countries around the world. All the items are produced by democratically run groups of disadvantaged artisans and farmers, mostly women, who struggle to compete in the conventional trading system. When someone purchases their products, they not only generate needed income for the artisans, but also contribute to the sustainable development of the communities where producers live by stimulating local economies around the world.
The Stampede for Need 5K Run/Walk 2017 is scheduled for February 25, 2017 in Central Park in College Station. This is a fun way to join in the spirit of giving and to show the poor in our community that we really do care about them. It is organized by ACT and all proceeds go directly to the St. Vincent de Paul Society, providing emergency assistance with rent, utilities, medicines, transportation, food and clothing for people in need in the community; as well as household items for fire victims. For more information, contact
, Stampede Coordinator.
